SENATOR OBAMA TELLS CONVENTION, ‘TOGETHER WE WILL CHANGE OUR COUNTRY’

Barack Obama Addresses ConventionA convention highlight was the speech—via videoconferencing—by Sen. Barack Obama, who thanked SEIU members for their organizing efforts among working people and on his behalf. He drew loud and long applause when he spoke about “walking a day in the shoes” of an SEIU Healthcare member, and when he evoked the name of Audrey Smith Campbell, a CNA on strike at a New York nursing home, who, after 82 days of picketing, died of asthma because her benefits had been eliminated. He told the SEIU delegates, “This is our moment. This is our time.”
