Preparing For 2008 Elections: COPE Blitz Picks Up Steam
With the promise of a new direction for our country in 2008, SEIU Healthcare members are revving it up in our Final Quarter COPE blitz. Healthcare reform, the Employee Free Choice Act, safe staffing--all of this work hinges on our political strength as a Union.
The goal--set in June at our Launch in Baltimore--is for every Local to achieve 33 percent membership participation in COPE by contributing $5 per month. Each Local has written a plan to achieve these goals by December 31.
The strength of a Local's COPE program will dictate its ability to hold politicians accountable to a worker-friendly agenda, one that includes quality healthcare for all. With the Presidential primaries only two months away, SEIU Healthcare Locals have our work cut out for us.
At least one Local has already surpassed the goal of 33 percent, and eight other Locals are on pace to achieve it by year's end, with several others likely to make the goal after the New Year.
